Juneau Athenaem

Winner, Alaska AIA 2012 Merit Award   Inspired by historic pier structures and by the dramatic local geology and topography, this pavilion concept anchors a revitalized plan to upgrade Juneau’s Marine Park, aiming to stitch the city’s tourist-oriented waterfront to its downtown business district. Funded in part by cruise tax revenues, the pavilion is designed to house much-needed multi-use year-round conference and small event space in a flexible indoor-outdoor arrangement. A new upper-floor meeting chamber accommodates city government needs, while an outdoor cafe space for locals and an information kiosk for visitors are sheltered under the structure’s overhanging roof.
